In 2016 the South West Healthcare Bowel Cancer Prevention Team came up with an idea to get people talking about Bowel Cancer. The idea came in the form of a giant knitted bowel complete with polyps, haemorrhoids and diverticula pouches. The 2.5 metres high and 1.5 metres wide bowel was knitted by individuals and groups in the Warrnambool, Moyne and Corangamite communities. The act of knitting a large scale bowel started much needed conversations about bowel cancer and about taking the free bowel cancer prevention screening kit test (for over 50s).
Bowel Cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, even though it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer (if found early.)
